Your teacher has asked you to write about a film you have seen recently on DVD for the school’s English magazine. Write a review for the magazine, giving your opinions on the film and saying whether you would recommend it.

“The themes in next month’s issue of our magazine are The weather and The Environment. Send us a review of a film in which the weather and/or the environment play an important part. From next month, we would like to include some film reviews in our new ‘Entertainment’ section. Why not write us a review of a film you have seen recently? Include information on the plot, the acting, the soundtrack/special effects etc. and say whether you would recommend it or not.

TELEVISION

What don’t you like on TV? Is there a programme on TV that you really dislike? We’re looking for reviews or programmes you really can’t stand. Tell us what you don’t like about the programme and we’ll publish the angriest reviews!

BOOKS

“Have you read a book in which the main character behaved in a surprising way?”
Write us a review of the book, explaining what the main character did and why it was surprising. Tell us whether or not you would recommend this book to other people

SHOPPING

“Where do you shop in our area?
We’d like to know your opinion of a shop in the area. Include the type of things sold, value for money, quality, the staff and service. We will publish the best reviews every week.”

Attention all shopaholics!
Have you got a favourite shop? We want to do a special feature on shopping in our area and would like to include some reviews of different shops. Write us a review of a shop you particularly like, including information about what the shop looks like (e.g. size, decor, displays), what it sells, the prices, and what kinds of people you would recommend it to.

If your review is published, you will win a £50 gift voucher to spend in a shop of your choice.

Have you recently visited a cinema, sports centre, bowling alley, ice rink or any other similar local leisure facility? If so, we want to hear from you. We are looking for new writers to tell us about their experience. Please send in a review of the place you visited, telling us about the location, describing the place and saying how you felt about your visit.

You are a member of a music club. Each month, the club publishes a newsletter with reviews of new albums that have been released. Write a review of an album you have listened to recently, commenting on the style of music, its good and bad points, and whether or not you would recommend it to others.

Brilliant but not well-known
Is there a book or some music that you think should be much more well-known than it is? A book or some music that you think is really brilliant, but most people don’t know about? What’s so good about it? Why does it deserve to be more successful than it is? The book or music doesn’t have to be new.
